Yes. Beta access details are shared with waitlist subscribers before the Kickstarter launch.

Who built Ray?

Ray is built by TechSpecs — the technology company behind the world’s largest consumer electronics specification database. TechSpecs’ API serves thousands of developers, businesses, and multinational financial institutions worldwide. Ray is TechSpecs’ flagship consumer product.

What is the OpenSubtitles partnership?

OpenSubtitles is the world’s largest subtitle database — 20+ years of human-created subtitle data across hundreds of thousands of titles. Ray’s AI models are trained on this data. In Ray Cloud, the AI agent searches OpenSubtitles for existing high-quality subtitles first and only generates from scratch when needed. This ensures the highest quality subtitle delivery.

Features

What are Ray’s main features?

Ray has 24 branded features across three modes:

  • Subtitle tools: Jumper (search inside video), Multiverse (4 subtitles at once), SubLift (extract hardcoded subs), SubZero (remove hardcoded subs), SubMerge (burn subs into video), WhoSaid (speaker identification)
  • AI intelligence: Ray Assistant (chat with videos), ReDub (AI dubbing), Lector (subtitle narration), Full Story (audio descriptions with voice cloning), Previously (AI recaps)
  • Video enhancement: Enhance (4K upscaling), Chroma (colorization), Reframe (60fps), Stable Ray (stabilization)
  • Audio intelligence: Clarity (noise removal and dialogue enhancement), Unmix (vocal/instrument separation)
  • Content and social: Grab (download from 800+ sites), Share and Embed, Watch party with lobby
  • Smart features: Guardian (AI content filtering and parental controls)

What are the three modes?

Cinema Mode is for watching. Play any video with real-time AI subtitles, dubbing, restoration, and audio tools.

Studio Mode is for production. Batch process up to one million files. Generate, translate, extract, remove, and burn subtitles at scale.

Capture Mode is for recording. Screen, camera, and audio capture with live AI subtitles generated as you record.

What is ReDub?

ReDub is AI dubbing. Ray translates and re-voices any video in 200+ languages using AI voices that match the original speakers’ tone and emotion. Watch foreign content dubbed in your language or record yourself once and publish in 200+ languages.

What is the Restoration Suite?

Four AI tools that transform any video: Enhance (upscale to 4K), Chroma (colorize black-and-white footage), Reframe (smooth motion to 60fps), Stable Ray (stabilize shaky footage). Use one or stack all four for cinematic results.

What is Watch party?

Watch party is social viewing. Watch videos together remotely with up to 100 people. Playback syncs perfectly. Each person sees subtitles in their own language. Browse The Lobby to find public rooms by genre and join.

What is Guardian?

Guardian is AI content protection. It detects and filters explicit content in real time — bleeping profanity, blurring violence or nudity, and skipping sensitive scenes. Set up kid profiles with age-appropriate presets. Works in any language automatically.

What subtitle formats does Ray export?

All subtitles are saved as standard SRT files on your local device. SRT works with virtually every video editor, media player, and platform.

What platforms is Ray available on?

What video formats does Ray support?

All of them. MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM, and more. If it plays, Ray can subtitle it.

Does Ray work with streaming services?

The browser extension works with web-based video players. Ray also supports IPTV live streaming with real-time subtitle generation.

Does Ray work offline?

Yes. Ray Local runs entirely on your device with no internet connection required. Ray Cloud requires internet.

Ray Local vs Ray Cloud

What is the difference between Ray Local and Ray Cloud?

Ray Local runs all AI processing on your device. Complete privacy, works offline, one-time purchase. Ray analyzes your hardware and automatically selects the best AI models for your system.

Ray Cloud runs AI processing on our servers. Works on any device regardless of specs, includes direct OpenSubtitles database integration, unlimited processing, video downloading, sharing, and embedding.

Can I use both?

Yes. You can switch between local and cloud processing depending on your needs. Use local for privacy or offline situations, cloud for heavy processing or lower-spec devices.

Which should I choose?

Choose Ray Local if you want complete privacy, offline capability, and a one-time purchase with no subscription.

Choose Ray Cloud if you want unlimited processing power, OpenSubtitles integration, video downloading from 800+ sites, sharing and embedding, and don’t want to depend on your device’s hardware.

Privacy and Security

Is my content private?

With Ray Local, nothing ever leaves your device. Your videos, audio, and subtitles stay on your machine.

With Ray Cloud, content is uploaded for processing and immediately deleted after. We never store your videos, audio, or personal content on our servers.

Does Ray collect my data?

Ray does not sell your data. Usage analytics are minimal and anonymized. Full privacy policy available at [rayplayer.ai/privacy].
